It has been non stop since we got back from Soweto!
The school had no PE facilities, apart from a square area of concrete. They have no equipment! and teachers have very little training in PE, if any. We took a fair bit of PE equipment across, in a 3rd bag!! forgot a pupm for the balls!!! We played games, danced and did fitness sessions with them. No PE kit either. The cards were very useful, as we worked in small group situations and we could let the cards "do the talking" as the class sizes were, on average 50-60!!They were able to complete most of the activities without equipment. Unfortunately we have no pictures. Even the animal cards were good as they started at a base level as they did not any experiences to draw on. The colourful cards went down well. As you can see from the photos, there are no colourful visual displays on the wall, for any subject! They have very little resources, very little money. All the 900 children in school are fed daily by the authority before they go home. However our children could learn much from them, their respect, their loyalty to family and school, their work ethic - they see education as a tool to better themselves. Let me know what you think. We are planning a visit for their staff next year and that may be good time to meet with us and them if you think you could be of assistance. I'm sure you could. I have attached some photos so you can get a "flavour" of our project.
