Testimonial from Head teacher Gilah Nursery.

The Pocketfit programme was implemented and trialled over a 6 week period for the pre- reception class (Foundation). The children were engaged and interested from the start and made attempts at all the movements introduced but initially as a result of it being unfamiliar with the programme they were not very competent with the movements.

After six weeks the children were competent at all the moves were totally engaged and were able to recognise both the movements and the associated animals. They were able to play a variety of games and their ability to perform the moves shown was almost perfect even though some children had their own interpretation of how they felt certain of the animals should move.

They were able to recognise healthy and unhealthy foods and were able to talk about animal sounds, habitat and what they ate and what they didn’t.

They were able to follow the instructions competently and count out the required number of repetitions per exercise.

They learnt to respond to stop start instruction and work together to engage in some of the games introduced.

They were more than enthusiastic to take a lead in any games and took it in turns to give instruction and demonstrate some of the exercises. As teachers we felt that the programme was easily delivered and accessible and its cross curricular elements made it an extremely worthwhile and effective resource.

Comments from some of the children:

“We loved all the exercises and all the animals”
“Our favourite games are statues and pairs”

Teachers Comments:

“The children were very enthusiastic and when we first saw the programme we thought that they were perhaps too young but they loved the programme and mastered the exercise moves very quickly”
